Description
Melanotan II is a cyclic heptapeptide analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone with a lactam bridge that confers resistance to enzymatic degradation. It is a non-selective agonist at melanocortin receptors MC1R, MC3R, MC4R and MC5R, and is used in research into melanogenesis, pigmentation pathways and central melanocortin signalling.
Research notes
- Roughly 1,000-fold more potent than native α-MSH at MC1R in binding assays
- Cyclic structure gives extended stability in solution compared with linear analogues
- Reference agonist for melanocortin receptor pharmacology
Research use only. This compound is supplied for in-vitro and laboratory research. It is not approved by the TGA or any regulatory body for human or veterinary use. Not for human consumption. Handle with appropriate laboratory precautions.
